Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, and Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), agreed on Tuesday that the two countries should carry forward their great traditional friendship from generation to generation.
Xi paid homage to the China-DPRK Friendship Tower with his wife Peng Liyuan, in the company of Kim and his wife Ri Sol Ju.
Xi and Kim also agreed that the years when China and the DPRK fought side by side in the 1950s are an eternal historical memory shared by both sides.
The two leaders pledged to jointly maintain memorial facilities dedicated to the Chinese People's Volunteers martyrs, carry out distinctive programs on revolutionary traditions and youth education, and carry forward the great spirit of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.
On Tuesday morning, Xi, accompanied by Kim, visited the Central Cadres Training School of the WPK in Pyongyang.
In the wooded area between teaching buildings, Xi and Kim jointly planted a fir tree. The fir tree remains evergreen throughout the year, symbolizing the enduring and ever-renewing friendship between China and the DPRK.

Kim Jong Un hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping in Pyongyang on Monday, featuring a large-scale ceremonial welcome with military honors, flag-lined streets and coordinated displays across the North Korean capital as part of a rare visit by the Chinese leader.
The motorcade carrying Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan moved through central Pyongyang as crowds, flags and organized formations lined major routes leading to the city's main square. The ceremony included a 21-gun salute and a military band performance, alongside coordinated displays involving schoolchildren, according to official footage distributed by state media, reported NBC News.
Kim Jong Un was accompanied by his wife Ri Sol Ju during the reception. The visit took place seven years after Xi's previous trip to North Korea, with both sides presenting the occasion as a continuation of long-standing diplomatic relations between Beijing and Pyongyang.

The meeting comes at a time when North Korea has strengthened its international posture through closer ties with Russia during the war in Ukraine, including reported troop deployments and expanded military cooperation, alongside continued development of its nuclear program. North Korea has also seen gradual economic recovery following pandemic-era restrictions and sanctions pressure, supported in part by renewed cross-border activity with China and Russia, according to the outlet.
The summit coincided with the 65th anniversary of the China–North Korea mutual defense treaty signed in 1961. Chinese and North Korean state outlets described the relationship as stable and longstanding. Xi stated that Beijing was prepared to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, agriculture, construction and technology, according to South China Morning Post.
Kim described the visit as a clear reflection of close bilateral ties, while Chinese messaging emphasized continued coordination on regional and economic issues, according to reporting by France24.
The summit also comes after a series of diplomatic engagements involving both leaders with other global counterparts. Reporting noted that Kim has recently hosted officials from Russia and other countries, while Xi has increased diplomatic outreach across multiple regions, according to The Wall Street Journal.
China's position during the visit also reflected its broader regional priorities, including maintaining influence over North Korea while managing its ties with Russia. A report from Intelligence Online said that South Korea has adjusted its approach regarding insistence on immediate denuclearization in diplomatic discussions, as regional dynamics evolve.
North Korea's nuclear program was also a focal point of context surrounding the meeting, with recent activity at weapons-related facilities referenced in state media reporting. Discussions did not publicly indicate changes in position regarding nuclear capabilities, according to NBC News.
Xi's visit was further described by Chinese and North Korean outlets as reinforcing a "special sense of closeness" between the two countries, with both sides referencing cooperation across infrastructure, trade, and diplomatic coordination.
