Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make an official visit to Sri Lanka in early April during which several MoUs will be signed between the two countries, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath told Parliament yesterday.
“We will sign several new MoUs during Prime Minister Modi’s visit,” Mr Herath said during the debate on the budget vote of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Foreign Employment.
He said the Indian PM will also launch the construction work of the Sampur solar power project during his visit.
The minister also announced that the signaling system along the Maho to Anuradhapura railway line, which was to be upgraded with a loan from India, will now be done through a grant from India.
President Anura Dissanayake made his first overseas visit since assuming office to India from December 15 to 17. During that tour he extended an invitation to Mr Modi to visit Sri Lanka.
This will be Mr. Modi’s fourth visit to Sri Lanka.
